Misfit features singer and performer Natalie Gamsu, currently starring in Mary Poppins with Musical Director Michael Tyack and a rogue’s gallery of some sorrowful souls who have accidentally fallen through the cracks in society’s thin veneer.
With songs by Noel Coward, Kurt Weill, Scott Walker, The Divine Comedy, Yazoo, Annie Lennox and Jonathan Cooper we learn of the wicked ways of those who live on the margins of life: how to live disgracefully into old age, how to permanently scrounge a living, how to sell your body, how to sell your soul, how to shake it like jelly on a plate, how to dream of killing your lover, and how to marry a one-legged sailor from Venezuela.
Entertaining, enlightening and invigorating in equal measure…come and join the Misfits.
Misfit is conceived and created by Natalie Gamsu and Jonathan Cooper
She is the equal, no doubt, of Piaf, Fréhel or Marlene Dietrich in her 1930s heyday. Bruce Beresford
South African Singer Soars.....Small is not a word that applies to Gamsu. A full-figured gal, she is an enormous talent with a big, rich contralto/mezzo. ....this striking soloist camps it up...but it’s her ballads that’ll blow you away...Gamsu already has come a long way - from South Africa, no less - and she’s bound to go even further." Waymon Wong , The Daily News, NY
A knockout success, that’s Natalie Gamsu’s portrayal of the great Mae West in a show that ranks as one of the best entertainments in town. Ms Gamsu’s Mae is a joy to behold. She looks and speaks the part to perfection and her raunchy contralto is shown to excellent advantage.... Gordon Engelbrecht , The Daily News, SA
